Dear Parents and Guardians:
My name is Savannah Windham and I am delighted to join Jordan High School’s Freshman Academy for the 4th quarter of this year! I will be teaching Mr. Goodson’s former Honors and Standard English I as well as his Foundations classes. I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself, share my plans for the upcoming quarter, and provide some out of class resources for you and your student.
This quarter will be an exciting one for English I. Before Spring Break we will finish up our units on Romeo and Juliet (Honors and Standard) and Lord of the Flies (Honors), taking an assessment for each during the week of April 7th-11th. From there, we will move into our new unit on poetry where students will have the opportunity to read and write about verse as well as create some of their own. In Foundations, we will continue our unit on the novel Monster, exploring themes of racism, prejudice, and society. All students will also have weekly opportunities to participate in SSR (sustained silent reading) with a book of their choice and augment their vocabulary through the WordSkills lessons. This quarter I aim to push students to continue to develop the skills necessary to perform well not only in my class but also on the 9th grade EOC (End of Course Exam) that will take place at the end of the quarter.
To keep up with the assignments we are doing in and out of class, I encourage you and your student to utilize our class website: http://mswindhamsenglish.blogspot.com/. Here I will post the daily agenda for each class and all assigned homework. This is an especially great resource for students who have questions about make-up work!
If you have any further questions or concerns about your student, you can reach me by e-mail at savannah.windham@gmail.com or by phone at the number listed above (ask for Mr.Goodson’s room). I will try as much as possible to respond to all messages within 48 hours.
Thank you and I look forward to working with your student this semester!
Ms. Savannah Windham
