  • warm-up: NCFE Practice 
    • For a warm-up, we did a practice passage from the North Carolina final exam. 
  • In-class work time to finish our ACES paragraph(s) outline
  • Dell Lab: Typing of ACES Paragraphs
    • Our ACES Packets and final drafts for our paragraph were due at the end of the hour!
  • HW: Continue to memorize your poem (Due next Wednesday - Friday!); review literary terms for our Poetry "Quest" during next class!

    • Pepper Review (Thursday) & Quiz (Friday) 
  • Poetry!
    • Thursday: We read "metaphor poems" (organized around a central metaphor that extends throughout the whole poem) and wrote our own version of a Metaphor Poem in class. 
    • Friday: We described images using material details & wrote more poems that we performed in class!

    • For a warm-up, we read and practice one passage from last year's North Carolina Final Exam. 
  • Poem speed dating
    • Memorization Practice for our poem recitations NEXT WEEK!
  • ACES Review & Peer Editing 
    • We reviewed the ACES format, edited each other's paragraphs from homework, and began working on our outlines for our own poems (due next class when we will go to the Dell Lab to write our paragraphs). 
  • HW: Finish outlining your paragraph (1 for Standard, 2 for Honors), continue memorizing your poem, continue reviewing literary techniques for our upcoming exam

    • We watched some examples of excellent poem recitations and discussed how these individuals made it work. 
  • Literary Analysis "Boot Camp"
    • We took notes on the ACES structure of analysis (see me if you were absent this day to get this packet!) and practiced applying this framework to a poem analysis together
  • HW: Finish writing ACES paragraph about "The Snow Man" (if not finished in class); continue memorizing your poem; begin reviewing literary terms for our poetry exam
